Ciabatta: Day One aka Foolish Poolish

Today's pretty boring.  Making a starter, involving a barter, raiding the larder.  Can this whole post rhyme? We'll see if I have the time.

Flour + water + yeast.  This sponge will be a beast.  Sits for three to four hours, during which it ferments and sours.  Listening to Nick Jonas is just a bonus.

After four hours, we see no real flowers.  The starter should be foamy, but is instead quite homely.  Foolish poolish, indeed.  This should be ciabatta's seed!  Alas, what to do?  I could wait a few, but it has already been four hours, and the starter has developed no superpowers.

So, next in the fridge it cools, but will not turn into mules.  No, it will be beautiful, like a well-manicured nail and cuticle.

Farewell, farewell!  Until tomorrow my dear, when your face as ciabatta will be clear. <3

  1. I READ A HINT THAT REMINDED ME OF YOU! For rising and fermenting, since it sounds like your kitchen is a cold as mine, here's what you do. Boil some water and put it in a glass. Put the glass in an enclosed area (microwave or oven) and put your thing to rise there as well. It warms the area up enough to make your dough rise. Thought this might help you.
